It’s not surprising, after 10 million viewers tuned into Laura & Preston, week after week, in their prime time television debut- Laura Nativo’s life has officially gone to the dogs.
The breakout starlette from CBS’ hit reality show, GREATEST AMERICAN DOG, may not have taken home the grand prize… but America fell in love with Laura, and her little pom too. Now, Laura & Preston, deemed “America’s Favorite Ma & Paw” by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, are fast becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest “power” couples in the realm of entertainment and philanthropy.
The duo has appeared on THE LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, REALITY BINGE, THE INSIDER, E!NEWS, NBC, CBS, as well as in hundreds of articles, forums, blogs and videos across the internet.
The brunette beauty already had an impressive list of credits, working as an actress and host in a number of movies, tv shows, music videos and commercials. Since her silver screen debut in Woody Allen’s aptly named film, CELEBRITY, Laura has shared camera time with the likes of Justin Timberlake (ALPHA DOG), Vin Diesel (XXX) and Charlize Theron (CELEBRITY).
Equally talented off screen, Laura is a highly respected film producer, credited with the teen comedy SURF SCHOOL, the festival hit RULE OF THREE, and THRESHOLD, an award-winning short film in which she also starred.
Currently, she is producing and hosting a live interactive show for dog lovers on the world’s most-watched internet television network, with her better half, Preston. PRESTON’S PLANET L!VE debuts in November, airing live Monday nights @ 6pm PST on theStream.tv!
Laura and Preston return to the big screen next year, co-starring in a “dogmantic comedy” set for production spring 2009. They also have a sitcom in development with a major production company, as well as a number of educational and reality programming in the works.
Laura’s girl-next-door warmth, captivating personality and undeniable brilliance have opened more doors than she ever imagined reality television could offer. But her “10 year overnight success” is long overdue, and certainly deserved.
She grew up in New Jersey with her father and younger sister, whom she helped raise after losing her mother to breast cancer. At the precocious age of five, Laura joined the cast of the popular television show ROMPER ROOM and experienced a kindergarten epiphany. She knew that whether it was in front of or behind the camera, she was destined for show business.
The cinema became her escape and her only source of hope for a “happy ending.” All these experiences inspired her to help others, particularly children who endured similar loss. Thus, creating positive, thought provoking entertainment became her lifelong vocation.
When she wasn’t taking care of the family or in school, Laura devoted her time making films with neighborhood friends, re-enacting scenes from DIRTY DANCING every day after school, and performing all over the east coast with the professional children’s theatre group, KIDS ON TOUR.
At the age of 17, still just a junior in high school, Laura took her life savings and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and producing. The 4.0 student graduated early from Beverly Hills High school and passed on Ivy League offers to instead focus on her passion.
Laura’s experience on and off camera, devotion to quality entertainment, and sincere desire to help others makes her a modern day Renaissance woman. Laura is active in politics and many philanthropic ventures near and dear to her heart.
As a motivated contributor to the Barack Obama Campaign, she was a producer for the YES WE CAN TOUR, a series of short films inspired by Obama, which toured the nation raising money and spreading the message for his campaign. She was also active in the California battle for animal farming conditions- Yes on Prop 2, and is currently dedicated the civil rights battle against Proposition 8.
Look for Laura in upcoming PSA animal rights campaigns, as a national spokesperson for IN DEFENSE OF ANIMALS, including their FUR-FREE FASHION and THE PET GUARDIAN initiatives. Laura will also be speaking on behalf of animals at IDA’s annual Fur-Free Friday Event in Beverly Hills. A long time animal lover, Laura has had the opportunity to spend extensive time with some of the world’s top animal trainers working with elephants, monkeys, leopards, hyenas, lions, tigers and bears (oh my), on a number of projects!
Laura’s relationship with Preston has opened doors she could have never imagined. Even before their experience on GREATEST AMERICAN DOG, Laura and Preston worked regularly as a therapy dog team with LOVE ON 4 PAWS, an LA based therapy dog program that visits local hospitals. Post-GAD, in an effort to form an innovated therapy dog group that appeals to a younger generation of volunteers, Laura has now joined forces with Greatest American Dog co-star Laurie Williams BA CPDT of COMFORT PAWS, a bicoastal non-profit therapy dog volunteer organization formed in 2006.
Laura will spearhead and oversee the LA division, THE PAWTASTICS, comprised of Preston and his celebrity, studio and other amazing dog friends, along with their humans. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to combine her love for animals with her compassion for children.
Laura is earning her reputation as an auspicious, gorgeous and brilliant young woman poised to become Hollywood’s next biggest and brightest thing. In her “free time” the self-proclaimed “prissy tomboy” is addicted to living out of a suitcase, surfing in Hawaii, justifying excuses to work in Europe, and adventuring around the world. When in LA (rarely) and not trying to save the world (particularly rarely), she most loves surfing, snowboarding, and sleeping with the only man who can keep up – Preston.
